Irkutsk City Hall Washed Its Hands in Yakobi, and You Can’t Swim There

The Sun-Faced Mayor of Irkutsk Ruslan Bolotov lives somewhere in Shelekhov in a parallel reality. Or exclusively on the positive. Namely: does not react to the negative, which it generates. An amazing ability!

For example, they raised the fares on municipal transport, although Ruslan Nikolaevich swore in December 2023 that they would not do this. And – silence. The mayor simply walked past a bunch of negativity he himself had imposed on this matter.

Or, for example, they lost the court case to the previous contractor for the reconstruction of the overpass on Batareynaya, so the current contractor turned out to be a slob, and Ruslan Nikolaevich again said nothing to the people. Not a word. Moreover, he talks about the development of Novo-Lenino, like, we are reconstructing the overpass. As if inviting the public to also play the fool.

By the way, in the Irkutsk mayor’s Telegram channel there is no way to leave a “poop”, let alone even a dislike. Here are all the possible reactions:

Just admire and be delighted.

Irkutsk City Hall Washed Its Hands in Yakobi, and You Can’t Swim There

Or another hot topic: places for swimming. There are no official ones in Irkutsk again. The regional Rospotrebnadzor recently reported that it had not issued any permits.

At the same time, it is clear that the heat drives the population to swim. And the city hall simply washed its hands of the same Yakobi Bay: like, dive, citizens, at your own risk. Your salvation is your own business. And we, in principle, do not poke our noses into waters of mass access.

No, that’s not it. The mayor’s office doesn’t say anything at all. It just watches. As if it has nothing to do with it. Although providing a comfortable living environment for the population is its direct responsibility.

We looked: practically in all the centers of the regions of the Siberian Federal District official public beaches are open (and somewhere not just one): in Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Kyzyl, Gorno-Altaisk, Abakan. Only in Kemerovo there is no one, but at least there is an open-air swimming pool, albeit a paid one. And there the city administration apologizes, explains the reasons: for example, the Tom has a strong uneven current, which you can’t fight. Our Far Eastern neighbors, in Ulan-Ude, have also recently opened an official beach.

The Irkutsk mayor’s office doesn’t care.

But they gave the go-ahead for swimming in Yakobi Bay in 2015 or, for example, in 2018. Where did the ineradicable rotaviruses, noroviruses, enteroviruses, even helminth eggs come from in recent years? Surely all this is not generated spontaneously? What measures have been taken and are planned? Is anyone even trying to influence the sanitary situation in the regional center?

Nothing, no answers, silence. Rospotrebnadzor announced that it had not given permission for swimming in any places at all, but why? Was there a request and again they found an infection in the water? Or was there no request at all today?

At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends swimming only in officially permitted places. Which do not exist, neither in Irkutsk, nor in the Irkutsk region as a whole. The tragic statistics are growing…
